Spurs and the Farce of the Summer Tranfer Window!

Spurs just love a good transfer window but we won’t really know whether it has been a good transfer window for Spurs for at least another week or two, which is good for Spurs because normally we don’t know until 11.55pm on the closing day of the transfer window.

Spurs have already done some very good business but the disgrace of this summer transfer window is the appalling behaviour of Real Madrid in their pursuit of Gareth Bale, they are disgrace to football and consider themselves to be outside the normal rules which govern the sport!

So it looks like Real Madrid have turned the head of Spurs star Gareth Bale and Bale’s agent is close to earning his multi-million pound commission, Bale’s move to Real Madrid is all but done and of course it has been engineered by Real Madrid and Bale’s agent, both parties appear to have acted very unprofessionally but that is football today.

Real Madrid for their part, thanks to Daniel Levy, will be paying a hefty price which could be in excess of £100m, about £50 more than Bale is actually worth and although Bale’s loss to Spurs is enormous once the dust has settled Spurs will be a much stronger team.

Yes Spurs relied on Bale far too much last season but that was mainly because we had no one else who could score goals at the highest level, Defoe has never been top 4 team calibre and has lost about a yard of pace and Ady is just a wasgte of space, Spurs have started putting that right with the signing of  Roberto Soldado, they need 2 more strikers or at least Leandro Damiao.

A few weeks ago Spurs back 4 did not seem an area of concern but now that Caulker has gone, Jan Vertonghen is injured and out for the first 3 matches, Dawson injured and Kaboul still can’t shake off his injury problems even after a year we really need a centre back, or two, because maybe we have to look to life without Kaboul! 

I would hope that Levy already had this covered before he sanctioned the sale of Caulker, it is only centre back because the full back areas are well covered with Walker and Rose being the first choice options.

Looking at midfield, again injuries are a problem with Sandro not fully recovered but a fully fit midfield of Sandro, Paulinho and Mousa Dembélé is as good as anything in the premiership, if not better and ably supported by Lewis Holtby, Jake Livermore, Tom Huddlestone  and Scott Parker.

In attack we need quality support for Roberto Soldado, Leandro Damiao would be nice and possible a little more creativity such as Willian, Bernard, Javier Pastore,  Christian Eriksen or Younes Belhanda, on the wings we have Lennon,  Nacer Chadli, Gylfi Sigurdsson, Andros Townsend with Thomas Carroll able to fill in in a number of positions so we do actually, subject to the last 2 weeks of the transfer window, preferably the 2 weeks before the start of the season, stand a very good chance of entering this coming season with our strongest squad ever for decades!

Be patient, give ABV time, his planning has been thrown into disarray by the unprofessional antics of Real Madrid, remember it is only 3 weeks ago it looked certain Bale would stay and ABV could confidently build his team around him maybe, just maybe Real Madrid have done us and ABV a favour but it will take 3/4 games to get the system sorted, although a good win in the opening game against Crystal Palace could boost confidence.
