The politics of the Bishops, Lib Dem’s, Labour and the do-gooder STOP PRESS STOP PRESS READ THIS!
In politics and any true democracy it is not always easy to get legislation through and it is the House of Lords job to scrutinise, not only legislation but the drafting of that legislation and most of the time they do a good job, a far better job than any elected chamber is likely to do!
The argument is simple, if you are out of work the state is prepared to fund you, during your hard times, up to a maximum of £26,000 a year which is equivalent to about £35,000 before taxation
In this case though it is the Bishops who really do not understand the arguments or politics, the bleating left and the Lib Dem peers led by Paddy Ashdown who was out of touch when he was Lib Dem Leader in the House of Commons and he is even more out of touch now. Further reading
The argument is simple, if you are out of work the state is prepared to fund you, during your hard times, up to a maximum of £26,000 a year which is equivalent to about £35,000 before taxation which to the majority of the population is extremely generous, a lot of the difficulty appears to be where families are living in very expensive housing in and around London but why is that a problem?
If a family is in work, earning £35,000 per year, they also would be unable to afford the housing some of these families are occupying and if they were living in such accommodation they would have to move so just why are we funding such large homes in the most expensive area in the country?
In most homes in this country £35,000 would be considered an OK salary, not massive but OK so how can anyone justify £35,000 not being a fair reward if you are out of work, one argument put forward is that a family in work where they have a £35,000 salary can also claim child allowance on top of that but they are in work and paying tax!
One thing the government must ensure is that where we are forced to pay benefits to non-UK citizens from abroad then any payments must come under the same rules and the governments itself must look at all of these cases to ensure we only pay where we have no option.
