Politics and the cost of our Social Welfare System!

The world of politics and the House of Lords is debating and expected to provide strong opposition to the governments proposal to limit household benefits to a maximum of £26,000 per annum which equates to £35,000 before tax etc. is paid!

Politics today is dominated by the whining minority of do-gooder’s who are in effect the people who have contributed to the massive handouts which give no-body any incentive to work, in fact some people seem to have made a business out of not working, need a pay rise then have another baby!

The welfare bill is the baby of politics comeback kid Iain Duncan Smith and I think he stands an even chance of getting a bill through the House of Lords which in fact carries 76% public support with 69% support amongst Labour voters so if the Labour Party do not support this they could end up very much on the wrong side of the argument!

Whilst I do not intend to go into the politics of the bill in any detail it appears the problems the do-gooder’s have identified are around very big families in and around the London area where housing is very expensive, I don’t know what compromises the government may be forced into to get the bill through but a few thoughts!

Now if you have someone with 8/10+ children you have to, whatever the law, ensure those children are cared for and I am against just cutting benefits in one cut because they have to be able to feed themselves and they need housing so the government has to tread a careful politics line and need to identify a formal transition but going forward, and you can’t do this retrospectively:

Why not put a cap on child benefit, with immediate effect cap child benefit at 3 children and for already large families no more benefit for additional children, this means that the cost of larger families will be reducing year on year.

There are hundreds of larger homes left empty, they should be renovated and used to house the larger families until the children leave home, the houses don’t need to be in good areas, this can be part of the rejuvenation poorer areas

So there, a toe in the water, a couple of ideas to stir the debate, let us have your views, agree or disagree please comment below!
